In September 2010 we'll celebrate the cultures of the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) and the Mi'kmaq, First Nations of the Maritimes.Saint John is where the river meets the sea, creating a natural harbour. The Wolastoqiyik take their name from the river - known to them as Wolastoq, which means beautiful river. The river and the bay form a natural transportation route and this area has been a meeting place of people and cultures for centuries. The Wolastoqiyik maintained a village on the west side of the harbour, where they would trade with other First Nations and in 1604 greet Samuel de Champlain. Join us in September 2010 for a celebration of Aboriginal arts, culture and heritage. www.saintjohn225.com
