art deco clock

"The art deco form was inspired by the "Internationale des Arts Decoratifs", Paris Exposition in 1925. The Aitkens Pewter artisans capture the clean "modernization" of lines in this period."

"The Aitkens Pewter artisans have created an exceptional work of art. A gracious curve flows down from the face and cradles the orb as a wave cradles the moon."

Freespun vase

"This vase is the only one of this kind that is made. The Pewter-Smith does not use a special chuck to regulate the patterns, thereby producing a unique design everytime and allowing you to purchase a one of a kind."

About Us

The Aitkens Pewter story began in 1972, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.

Martin Aitken, then 17, had apprenticed with well-known pewterer Dr. Ivan Crowell and set up his own shop in the city. The following year, his father Philip joined him, and the Aitkens ‘touchmark’—the triple A in a circle—had its debut.

Aitkens Pewter - TouchmarkDecades later, that touchmark still represents the quality and craftsmanship that goes into every piece we make.

Pewter is at least 95% tin with small parts of antimony and copper, making it an extremely versatile metal that actually improves with age. It doesn’t rust, tarnish or affect the taste of food or drink, and requires little maintenance.

At Aitkens Pewter, we employ the time-honoured methods of spinning and casting. Coasters, frames, jewellery, and ornaments are cast in rubber molds. Hollowware—mugs, goblets, vases and bowls—are spun on a lathe. Pre-cast handles and stems are soldered into place. Finally, the piece is hand-polished, tumbled in stones, or buffed.

At Aitkens Pewter we value our customers. That’s why we maintain a level of service that is unsurpassed in the industry. We sell directly to you from our own retail stores, our web site and from our studio—whether it’s a straightforward in-store purchase or a more complex custom order.
