The Saint John Jewish Historical Museum is pleased to announce it will be open for the summer season at 91 Leinster Street (corner of Wentworth) in Uptown Saint John. Regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday during July and August from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. These hours will remain in effect from Tuesday, May 29 to Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Group tours are also welcomed by appointment throughout the year.
Mr John Leroux has agreed to lend an important painting by Fred Ross of Joseph Kashetsky for a second season. It will be on display throughout the summer.
Featured exhibits :
“Pencils, Paints and Pianos : Jewish Arts in Saint John” – display of original art and writing by Jewish community members. Thank to our members and friends for lending us their treasures for this exhibit.
“There’s No Place Like Home” – display of a 1940s era Jewish kitchen accompanied by stories of growing up Jewish in Saint John
“The Jewish Way of Life” - a display of Jewish holidays and customs from the cradle to the grave using artifacts and community stories.
“Ancient Israel” – a sampling of antiquities from the land of Israel from Biblical Times
The Saint john Jewish Historical Museum will also be holding a raffle for a small watercolour sketch by Herzl Kashetsky. Tickets for $5.00 each are available at the Museum. The draw will take place on November 9.
An archives and library which attract historians and genealogists from around the world is open to researchers by appointment throughout the year. The museum will be closed on all Saturdays in observance of the Jewish Sabbath and for Jewish Holy Days (September 17, 18 and 26 and October 1, 2, 8, and 9).
The museum welcomes visitors from throughout the world who arrive in the city by car, bus and cruise ship, as well as local residents.
